A teenager has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A Garda is recovering after an assault in the midlands.

She suffered face and hand injuries in the alleged incident at Athlone Bus Station yesterday morning at around 7.15.

The officer was taken to hospital for treatment but has seen been discharged.

A teenager was arrested and released, and a file is being prepared for the DPP and the National Juvenile Office.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is being asked to contact Athlone Garda Station.
