Just over 100 houses were started across the counties last month, in new Department of Housing figures.

Housing commencements in the Midlands continued to rise year on year last month.

New Department of Housing figures show just over 100 houses have started across the counties compared to just 17 in February 2025.

Laois sees the biggest increase at 58, up from just 8 in 2025, Westmeath is at 43 up from 4 and Offaly remains unchanged at just 5.

Nationally, 3,423 new homes have been started last month, bringing the figure so far to over 5,400 homes started this
