The Midlands was the region outside Dublin that experienced the greatest growth in house prices.
The cost of buying a home increased by 13.2% in the year to May across the region.
The median price of a house in Laois stands at €350,000, with Westmeath set at €330,000 and Offaly just under €290,000.
CSO figures show the median price of a home nationally was €395,000.
Prices in Dublin went up by 4.7%, while outside the capital they were up 7.3%.
