Midlands Parents Strongly Back Co-Educational Classrooms

The majority of households in the region prefer their children to be taught alongside both boys and girls.

The vast majority of parents in the Midlands want their children in co-educational classrooms.

Data from the Department of Education's Primary School Survey shows 96% of households in the region would prefer their child was taught in a co-ed setting.

For families with a child already in a single sex school, 66% of Laois parents would choose a mixed classroom, the figure is 74% in Westmeath, and 78% in Offaly.

Nationally, responses from those with a child not yet in school, 95.2% expressed a preference for co-educational classrooms.
