A midlands TD is accusing the Environmental Protection Agency of trying to 'demonise' farmers.

The EPA's latest report ranked the local authority in Offaly among the worst in the country in terms of enforcing environmental inspections.

It examined governance, waste, water, air and noise, and gave the county the worst score in 14 of the 20 categories investigated.

Agricultural waste was highlighted as the main contributor to water pollution.

Laois and Westmeath performed substantially better than their regional counterpart.
