A midlands TD is proposing legislation to regulate the development of wind energy in Ireland.
Sinn Féin's Brian Stanley says his bill puts forward some common sense requirements on the height of turbines, for noise levels to be within WHO limits, and for no shadow flicker to be allowed to pass over houses.
The Laois-Offaly TD is also proposing giving the power to zone land for wind development back to local authorities, and, in line with practices across Europe, give communities within 4 kilometres of a windfarm the opportunity to buy shares in the project.
Deputy Stanley is hoping to receive support from those in government - with this his third attempt to pass the legislation in the last seven years:
