Midlands Town Aiming For 'Autism Friendly' Status

Only handful of towns have secured the accreditation.

A midlands community is aiming to secure 'Autism Friendly' status.

Councillor Noel Touhy is behind the push for Portlaoise to become one of the first towns in Ireland to do so.

The accreditation is offered through a partnership between autism charity AsIAm and Supervalu.

Dimming lights in supermarkets and having a designated members of staff trained to support autistic children are some of the requirements.

The Labour rep thinks it's a campaign that could be replicated everywhere:
