Junior Minister Sean Fleming says a €5.5m extension is a sign of future plans.
The future of Portaloise Regional Hospital is guaranteed for many decades to come, according to local TD Seán Fleming.
The Fianna Fáil deputy and Junior Minister for Finance is making the remarks following the announcement of a new respiratory assessment unit at the hospital.
5 and half million euro has been approved for the new two-storey extension, adjacent to the Emergency Department.
Minister Fleming says this project proves the government has no plans to downgrade the hospital:
Michael Knowles, General Manager at Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise, says:
“We are very pleased to add this development to the range of ongoing improvements being undertaken at the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise.
"This will enhance the physical space and overall experience of patients who are attending our services.
"We would like to acknowledge the support of staff for their work on this particular project and to the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group and HSE Estates who have worked with us to get it approved.”
