"Most Sensitive" Garda Role Must Go To Irish Person - Independent TD

The role is currently to be given to a Canadian.

The most sensitive role within An Garda Síochána should not be given to a Canadian - according to a midlands TD.

Following failed attempts to fill the role of deputy commissioner for policing and security, which is currently held by Laois' Anne Marie McMahon, the position will be given to Deputy Commissioner Shawna Coxon on a double-jobbing basis.

The former deputy police chief in Toronto already oversees strategy, governance and performance in the Gardaí.
