The Offaly man was Taoiseach from 2008-2011.
The position of Taoiseach was a responsibility that weighed heavily on Brian Cowen's shoulders.
That's according to Professor Gary Murphy, author of a new book on the former Offaly politician.
The Clara man served as Taoiseach and leader of the Fianna Fail party from 2008 until 2011, and was in office during the height of the financial crisis.
Professor Murphy extensively interviewed him in the process of writing his book 'Brian Cowen: Anatomy of a Taoiseach' which is being launched at the Tullamore Court Hotel on Friday evening.
He says while Mr Cowen enjoyed the position, he was all too aware of its burden:
Meanwhile, The Author of the new biography says the former Taoiseach won't be forgiving Simon Coveney in the near future.
The new book revisits an infamous 2010 interview involving the then Fianna Fáil leader on Morning Ireland, following a late night at Galway’s Ardilaun Hotel.
In a tweet after the interview, former Tánaiste Simon Coveney suggested Mr Cowen sounded like he was still under the influence.
