Bord Na Móna and SSE Renewables have teamed up in a new joint-venture.
Up to €1 billion could be invested into midlands windfarms over the next decade, as part of a new partnership.
Bord Na Móna and SSE Renewables are joining forces to deliver as much as 800MW of onshore wind energy.
The Lemanaghan Wind Farm in North West Offaly and the Garryhinch project on the Laois Offaly border are among the developments set to be added to the partnership's new portfolio.
It's also hoped hundreds of jobs will be created in the region during the construction and operation phases of the projects.
The aim of the joint venture is to generate enough energy to power nearly half a million homes.
It's one of the largest onshore renewable energy joint ventures in the history of the state.
Energy Minister and Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan says the partnership will see significant investment in the midlands, which has historically played a significant role in powering Ireland.
