Westmeath failed to collect a single cent in derelict property tax in 2024. 

11 councils across the country collected nothing - despite collectively having jurisdiction for thousands of uninhabitable homes. 

€26m in derelict site tax levies went uncollected in the same year.  

The Department of Finance estimates there are 19,000 derelict properties across the country which could be brought back into use.
