Councillors in Edenderry are welcoming the updates for the new sports facility.
Offaly Councillors Hope New Swimming Pool Will Attract More Visitors.
At the latest Edenderry Municipal District meeting, an updated timeline was given for the new swimming pool, with completion expected in 17 to 19 months.
Edenderry councillors welcomed the update on the new sports facility, with hopes of attracting more visitors to the town.
Cllr Fergus McDonnell says the project is "long overdue" following the closure of the town's swimming pool two years ago.
The original pool closed after a fire broke out at the facility, forcing it to shut down.
He shared that his own grandchildren are now members of Mullingar Swimming Pool and are often on the road early in the morning to attend practice.
As a result of the pool's closure, many Edenderry residents have had to travel to use other swimming facilities.
Cllr McDonnell says the new facility will be state of the art and will attract more people to Edenderry.
He hopes there will be additions to the facility over time, mentioning the idea of a gym.
Ultimately, Cllr McDonnell believes the project will bring more visitors to the town who wish to use the pool:
