Edenderry has been without a pool since a fire broke out two years ago.
Edenderry is set to get a new swimming pool next year, with a positive update given at the most recent Edenderry Municipal District meeting regarding the new sports facility coming to the town.
Cllr Fergus McDonnell says Offaly County Council and the design team for the project are continuing to make progress on the development.
The town has been without a swimming pool since a fire broke out two years ago, forcing the original facility to close.
The nearest available pool to the town is in Tullamore, which is just under a 30-minute drive away.
The local representative highlighted that the project is a massive undertaking but said it is now nearing completion.
Cllr McDonnell says a timeline of 17 to 19 months has been given for the project to be completed, but he hopes the pool will be ready sooner:
However, he acknowledged that timelines can often change when dealing with projects of this scale.
He remains hopeful that the new swimming pool could be ready earlier than the proposed timeframe.
Councillors welcomed the update and were pleased to hear that the facility is expected to open in the coming months.
