Offaly TD Calls For Educational Disadvantage Committee To Be Re-Established

It was abolished back in 2006.

An Offaly TD is calling for the government's Educational Disadvantage Committee to be re-instated.

It was intially set-up in 2003, and introduced the Deis school programme - before being was abolished in 2006.

A report by the Higher Education Authority shows just 10% of students at third level are from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Independent deputy Carol Nolan believes the committee is required to remove barriers at all levels of education:
