A Longford/Westmeath TD says many older people have been left broken hearted by the vaccination programme. 

Joe Flaherty was one of several Fianna Fáil deputies strongly criticising the pace of the country's vaccination programme at last night's parliamentary party meeting.

Dara Calleary said he had little faith in the HSE to deliver given some experiences.

It comes as the health service failed to hit the government's target of administering 100,000 doses last week, with supply issues blamed.

But professor of virology at UCD, Gerald Barry, says Ireland's doing well compared to other EU nations:

Deputy Flaherty says his comments on the country's vaccine rollout are constructive criticism rather than condemnation of the HSE. 

He claimed many older people have been left broken-hearted by the programme during last night's Fianna Fáil parliamentary meeting. 

GPs are also reporting issues in the distribution of the jab.
