Online Activity Driving Up Eating Disorder Cases

The online world is driving up the number of eating disorder cases.

Head of Student Counselling at Athlone IT Treasa Fox says there is a direct correlation with our social media use and our perceptions of body image.

According to the Irish Medical Journal, there was a two thirds increase in hospital admissions for eating disorders last year, compared to 2019.

Ms. Fox says the uncertainty of the pandemic, the lack of social connection, and even students feeling self-conscious on virtual classes are contributing to the problem:
