In the midlands, the highest number of vacant council houses is in Offaly at 36, followed by Laois with only one less at 35 and in Westmeath there are 30 empty council homes.
Laois has the highest number of people on the waiting list in the region, at 1,743, In Westmeath there are 1,529 and in Offaly the figure is at 1,292.
