The National Planning Framework is moving people towards larger towns and away from more rural areas, according to a Local Election Candidate in Westmeath.
Labour Councillor Denis Leonard says if the current situation continues, every county will end up with two to three big towns and the rest of the county being turned over to the National Parks and Wildlife service.
He wants to examine the lack of facilities in rural Ireland, including public transport, school and general amenities.
