A Midlands MEP is calling for an EU wide database to track defibrillators, urging the European Commission to take action as part of the EU's cardiovascular health strategy.
Nina Carberry believes it's vital to know where defibrillators are and that they're properly maintained and accessible.
Retired Consultant Surgeon in Portlaoise Hospital, Peter Naughton mapped the locations of all defibrillators in 2020 and proposed training programs for secondary school students to help with usage.
He warns the lack of maintenance of these devices remains a significant issue, particularly in rural areas.
