Pieta House Expected To Close Midlands Services

A new 'co-located' facility is expected to opened in the future.

Mental health services in a Westmeath outreach centre are expected to close due to cost-saving measures.

Pieta is confirming a funding shortfall is behind the decision to change its outreach services in Westmeath.

The suicide prevention charity says inflation and cost of living increases requires it to start a cost saving plan to help ensure its long term sustainability.

As part of the plan, three of its centres will move to a co-located outreach model, including Athlone.

Reports indicate this will result in a closure of in person support at the Midlands facility until a new co-located service is established.

Midlands MEP Ciaran Mullooly is looking for an urgent meeting with Pieta House CEO Stephanie Manahan.

Reports also indicate centres in Waterford and Tralee are undergoing the same process.

The CEO of Pieta House insists its "intention" is to avoid reducing in-person services in Westmeath.

Stephanie Manahan, CEO of Pieta House says it's in order to honour the community's trust in them:
