It's in an effort to limit the spread of infection.
Portiuncula University Hospital is among the latest to impose visiting restrictions.
The measures are being put in place as an infection control and will continue into next week and remain under review.
A spokesperson for the Ballinasloe hospital is asking the public not to visit other than for end of life situations and other exceptional circumstances.
Other hospitals that have also been restricted this evening include University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park, Roscommon, Mayo, Sligo and Letterkenny hospitals.
People are being asked not to visit the facilities unless it's an end-of-life situation.
The restrictions will remain in place until next week, when they'll be reviewed.
