An extensive public consultation has been completed by Westmeath County Council on the Kilbeggan to Mullingar Greenway.
The preferred route for the Kilbeggan to Mullingar Greenway has been announced.
The project will offer a link between established routes through Offaly, Westmeath, Longford, and Dublin.
The newly announced route will start at Kilbeggan Harbour, and it will follow the River Brosna to Ballynagore.
From there it continues north close to Lough Ennell, where it will offer a corridor linking it with Lilliput Adventure Centre.
After that users will be brought eastwards to Dalystown, on to Carrick Wood, and Belvedere House.
After going north around Lough Ennell, the route follows on to the Lynn Road and joins with the Old Rail Trail to Mullingar.
Westmeath County Council now moves on to the Design and Environmental phase where more project details will be finalised while the local authority assesses the 'landtake requirement'.
The start of this phase will see multiple engineering and site surveys taking place followed by further public consultation.
