Mr Kinahan spoke with Ali Mazidi, who is currently being held on remand at Portlaoise Prison.
An investigation is taking place in a Midlands prison after Daniel Kinahan was reportedly allowed to speak to man accused trafficking €60 million worth of cocaine.
The Irish Independent is reporting Mr Kinahan spoke to Ali Mazidi who is on remand at Portlaoise Prison facing an accusation that he was involved in a botched operation to import the drug into Ireland.
Kinahan is currently being held in the maximum security facility in Laois, charged with directing a criminal organisation.
Mr Mazidi is recovering from a heart attack at the same prison earlier this month, and reports indicate an imprisoned trafficker Kiumaars Ghabiri managed to get Mazidi's hospital room phone added to a list of permitted numbers to call in Portlaoise Prison.
Ghabiri is serving an 11 year sentence for his part in the attempt to bring €60 million worth of cocaine into Ireland.
Mr Mazidi is charged for being part of the same operation
Daniel Kinahan reportedly made a "life-saving intervention", performing CPR on Mazidi when he fell ill earier this month.
It's believed his part in that incident led to him being permitted to talk to the Iranian Dutch national over the phone.
Officials in Portlaoise Prison are investigating how and why the phone number for the hospital room made it on to the list of numbers Mr Ghabiri was allowed to call.
Mazidi is due in court to face his charges on November 11th, however his defence barrister says that date is very unlikely to go ahead as he recovers from heart surgery.
Daniel Kinahan is expected to apply to the High Court to be released on bail in the coming weeks.
The 49-year-old is charged with directing the activities of a criminal organisation between October 18th, 2015 and April 6th, 2017.
