Projects Could Be Shelved As Westmeath Councillors Vote Against Property Tax Rise

The Fine Gael representative believes the decision will damage local projects.

Projects in Westmeath could be shelved after county councillors decided not to increase the local property tax.

Fine Gael's John Dolan also says it will be up to Fianna Fáil and others who voted against the proposal to find the solutions to fund these projects.

The local authority's head of finance Jimmy Dalton suggested a 15% price hike, which would have generated €900,000. 

Councillor Dolan believes it's a missed opportunity as the cost to homeowners would have been less than euro per week:
