The development would see vacant offices converted for the clinic.
As many as 20 new jobs could be created in Laois, if plans for a new medical clinic get the green light.
Affidea Diagnostics Ireland is seeking planning permission to change the use of an office in the Parkside Shopping Centre in Portlaoise.
The development would see the existing F8a and F9 units amalgamated to become a 600 square metre medical clinic, complete with ancillary staff, patient and administration areas.
The planning report says the units were never occupied and remained in a 'shell and core' state since the shopping centre was finished.
The clinic, which would be based in F9 would carry out non-invasive diagnostics only, and would be fitted with five examination rooms.
A minor-injury unit will be based in F8a, if given the go-ahead, which would provide rapid-response care.
A total of 20 people would be employed at the clinic, which would have the capacity for a maximum of 15 patients every hour.
