The organisers say the facility is a vital public amenity.
People are taking to the streets this morning to voice opposition to the closure of Portlaoise Leisure Centre
The facility has closed, following an announcement last week, due to the financial burden of covid-19.
30 staff at the County Council owned complex are being laid off.
A public protest is taking place at 10 o'clock this morning, with a march from the centre to Áras an Chontae.
An online petition, calling for the local authority to keep the amenity open, has also received almost 5,000 signatures.
