Public In Westmeath Town Warned Against Feeding Swans

It's to stop the spread of a fungal infection in the animals.

Westmeath County Council is asking the public not to feed swans in Athlone.

The local authority says there are reports that the birds, in Coosan Point, have pink feathers which is a sign of a fungal infection.

The swans get the illness by eating stale or mouldy bread.
