A local councillor is making the suggestion to the local authority.
Re-opening one Offaly train station would create a vibrant commuter area while taking pressure off nearby towns and services.
That's the view of Fianna Fáil councillor Tony McCormack, who is suggesting to the Offaly County Council Development Committee that Geashill Train Station be re-developed.
A logistical report found necessary work includes building two platforms along with acquiring public car parking space beside the station.
The Tullamore rep says it would take a small effort from Irish Rail to make the station operational:
