Road Maintenance Costs Rise In Laois And Offaly

Westmeath was the only county that cut spending by 15%.

The cost of road maintenance is on the rise for two Midlands counties. 

Laois and Offaly County Council's spend on tending to the roads increased by 35% and 24% respectively between 2021 and 2023, while Westmeath cut its spending by 15%.

Despite this, pothole complaints across Ireland surged by 92% from 2022 to 2024.

From 2021 - 2023 Laois county council spent €71,210,198  on road maintenance, in Offaly that figure is €63,775,401 while for the same period in Westmeath €58,595,729 was spent.
