The cocaine and cannabis were discovered in Portlaoise this week.
Three men were brought before yesterday’s sitting of Portlaoise District Court charged with possessing €50,000 worth of cocaine and cannabis with a value of €40,000.
Before the court were Ryan Fogarty (18) from 51 Lake Drive, Kilminchy, Portlaoise; Caleb Lifeta (19) from 13 Coniberry Way, Portlaoise; and David Gblalajobi (20) from 25 Rathevan Close, Portlaoise.
All three were charged with possessing drugs for their own use and for sale or supply on 10th May at Lake Drive, Kilminchy.
When the first of the three, Mr. Gbalajobi's case was called, Judge Miriam Walsh suggested to him: “Perhaps longer trousers would be in order. It’s not as though you’re in the Costa del Sol. Short of wearing a pair of sunglasses, you’d fit in well in the Costa.”
Defending solicitor Aonghus McCarthy said: “In fairness, Judge he has been in custody for the past few days.”
Garda Paul Kenny from the Laois Garda Drug’s Unit said that when the charges were put to the three men, they made no reply.
Mr. McCarthy said that an application for bail for Mr. Gbalajobi and Mr. Lifeta would be sought at a later date.
Both were remanded in custody until the next sitting of their case on 19the May.
Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald said that his client, Mr. Fogarty, was agreeable to strict bail conditions and his case adjourned to 28th July.
