Gardaí believe the incident may be linked to a machete attack at a house in Fermanagh at the weekend.
Three men arrested by gardaí in Athlone yesterday are due to appear in court this morning.
One man, aged in his 40s, and two in their 20s have been charged, in relation to the ongoing investigation into threats to kill and cause serious harm on social media.
A machete, blades, knives and electronic devices were also seized during two searches at houses yesterday.
The men are due to appear before Mullingar District Court at 10.30 this morning.
Gardaí believe the incident may be linked to a machete attack at a house in Fermanagh last Saturday, in which a 13 year old girl was seriously injured.
