Two more vehicles were damaged in further attempted break-ins.
Gardaí are investigating the theft of tools from a number of vehicles in Laois.
The incidents occurred in the Chapel Street area of Durrow shortly after midnight last night.
Damage was done to a further two vehicles in attempted break-ins in the Square, and gardaí believe all four incidents are linked.
The suspect was seen driving away from the scene in a silver Golf, possibly a 2007 model.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have camera, dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.
Anyone with any information is being asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station.
