A Westmeath councillor is suggesting an idea similar to TV licence inspections.

Random, unannounced house calls could soon be introduced in Westmeath, in an effort to combat illegal dumping.

The Mayor of Athlone, Aengus O'Rourke, is proposing inspections, similar to those for the TV licence, to ensure residents are properly disposing of their rubbish with a waste disposal company.
