Westmeath Councillors Push To Turn Former IPAS Site Into Recreational Space

A High Court ruling overturned the ministerial order for the Lissywollen site in Athlone.

Councillors in a Midlands town are urging the local authority to consider the redevelopment of a former IPAS centre in future plans.

A High Court judgement quashing a ministerial order providing a legal basis for grounds in Lissywollen, in Athlone was passed in November.

Local reps who brought the case to court now want the site in question to be repurposed for recreational use.

The land will be the focus of attention in Athlone's joint urban area plan involving Westmeath and Roscommon County Councils.
