Alan Clancy is claimed to owe money in unpaid rent on the Oldcastle House Hotel in Meath.
The Westmeath man behind a joint restaurant venture with Offaly golfer Shane Lowry is facing an application that would see him declared bankrupt over an alleged debt of €278,000.
The Irish Independent is reporting Sean McGowan claims Alan Clancy owes him the money in unpaid rent on the Oldcastle House Hotel in Meath.
Mr Clancy is one of the most prominent names in the hospitality sector in Ireland.
He partnered with Shane Lowry to convert the old Tullamore Dew visitor centre into a gastro pub in 2022.
Mr Clancy, who has an address at Hanover Quay in Dublin, is disputing the allegation of debt with his lawyer, insisting his client is solvent, denies the debt, and will be bringing a counter claim.
The brother in law of former Irish soccer goalkeeper Shay Given is alleged to owe €160,000 and just under €120,000 in late payment interest.
He began leasing the premise in Oldcastle in 2017, with the arrears developing over the Covid 19 pandemic.
Mr Clancy's barrister said there was an agreement in place that he would continue to operate the premises in advance of it being sold.
If the building reached a sale total of €950,000, he was to get 50% of the uplift from the sale.
Mr Clancy says this sum has not been paid and was to be used to clear the rent arrears.
He's bringing proceedings against Mr McGowan for his share of the sale surplus.
