The Athlone to Westport route remains closed today.
Gardaí have confirmed a 12 year-old boy died in a collision between a car and a train in Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo yesterday.
The 18:15 Heuston to Westport service was involved in an incident at Kiltybo, Ballyhaunis just before 9pm.
Replacement bus transfers are in operation on the Westport to Athlone route this morning .
It was one of two separate train strikes at user-operated level crossings within five hours.
