The Green Party Minister's comments come during an ongoing debate about the protection of wolves in the EU.
A midlands Senator believes wolves "would be shot" if they were reintroduced to Ireland.
The Irish Times is reporting Green Party Junior Minister and Offaly's Pippa Hackett says the country's ecosystem "isn't yet capable of coping" with the animals.
There's an ongoing debate over the protection of wolves in Europe.
Her party's leader, Eamon Ryan, previously suggested the idea of bringing the animals back here, but later said it won't happen any time soon.
Minister Hackett, who has responsibility for Land Use and Biodiversity, says she's not against the proposal, but it's decades away, and would require engagement with farmers.
She also says it may not be suitable for the entire country.
