The collision between an SUV and a truck happened on the N5 in Roscommon at Scramoge at around 5pm yesterday evening.
A woman in her 80's who was a passenger in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver - a woman aged in her 70's - was airlifted to hospital in Galway and is being treated for serious injuries.
