Thornberry Battery Energy Storage System began development in 2018.
The rights to develop a battery storage project in Offaly have been bought by SSE Renewables.
Thornsberry Battery Energy Storage System project is located near Tullamore and it will have 240 megawatts generated per hour at peak times.
That's enough to power more than 115,000 homes for up to two hours at a time.
Thornsberry would also be able to connect to the national energy grid through an adjacent existing substation that can generate 110 kilometers an hour.
The project began development in 2018.
