Three young Buccaneers girls have been selected on Ireland squads involved in international action this coming weekend. Leah Downes and Zara Kurt-Elli have been included on the U-18 Touch Rugby squad participating in the European championships in Paris while Ivana Kiripati is named on the Ireland U-18 Sevens panel.
The selection of Leah and Zara on the U-18 Touch Rugby squad is particularly commendable as both girls are still U-16 and only started playing Touch in April/May under the tutelage of Denis O’Connor. They were chosen ahead of more experienced players for the Euros.
Ivana has been training with the Sevens panel for the past number of months after doing well with Connacht in the Interpros. The Sevens squad are travelling to Swansea to participate in the Home Nations tournament.Ivana was due to play with Connacht in the first round of the new season’s Interpros against Leinster but is obviously now not available for that. However, another pair of young Pirates, Amy Kelly and Faith Oviawe, are in the Connacht squad.
