CARTY INSPIRES CONNACHT
Congratulations to Connacht on a memorable and fully merited 35-24 PRO14 victory over Leinster. Inspired by JACK CARTY, the westerners recorded a first ever win at the RDS as they inflicted a first league defeat in 26 matches on the title holders. Jack richly warranted his 'Man of the Match; award, his haul of 25 points exceeding that of the hosts and also being the most points scored by any player in a match against Leinster in the professional era!
Connacht excelled from start to finish apart from a third quarter wobble. However, they steadied themselves and were unfortunate to concede a try to Leinster in the final move of an absorbing and fast-moving encounter. This earned the home side a bonus point but Connacht came away with a haul of five points.
Buccaneers was well represented in the contest with SHANE DELAHUNT and the MASTERSON brothers EOGHAN and SEAN being in the starting XV while CONOR KENNY and COLM REILLY were introduced during the second half. Strangely both
replacements were not included in The Sunday Times; match report; tut tut Peter Reilly.
Well done, guys, and keep it going next against Munster!
GERWYN PRICE wins World Darts title
You may wonder why new PDC World Darts champion and now World No.1 GERWYN PRICE features in Buccaneers Notes but did you know he once played at Dubarry Park? Back in 2012 when Cross Keys, a small town Welsh club, competed in the British& Irish Cup in which Connacht Eagles also participated.
Connacht had a memorable 31-16 win at the Athlone stadium despite Rodney Ah You incurring an early red card for the hosts. Hooker Price came off the bench on that occasion but, despite their defeat in the Irish midlands, Cross Keys progressed to the B&I Cup final and later defeated Pontypridd in the Swalec Cup final that season.
