It was a magnificent effort from the Portlaoise native.
Team Ireland has won its fifth medal of the Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
Gary O'Reilly from Laois has claimed bronze in the Cycling H5 Time Trial.
He clocked a time of 39 minutes 36 point 4-6 seconds on the road.
That left him 14 seconds adrift of France's Loic Vergnaud in second and one minute and nine seconds down on the superb Dutchman Mitch Valize who took gold.
