The essays can be submitted in English or Irish.
Senior Cycle students in schools across the midlands are being invited to take part in a new Oireachtas Essay Competition.
There are over €4,000 worth of prizes available to students who submit essays in English or Irish on the theme 'Parliamentary Politics Matters' or 'Tábhacht na Polaitíochta Parlaiminte'
The competition was created by Independent Senator Rónán Mullen with the support of An Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghaíl and the Oireachtas Education Unit.
Students are asked to register by 15th November 2022 with the support of a teacher in their school.
The final date for submissions is 8th December 2022.
Submitted essays will be assessed by a team of volunteer teacher assessors and a team of academic and teaching professionals, who will decide who will win the prizes.
Winners, their teachers and their parents will attend a ceremony in Leinster House in Spring 2023.

Competition Creator, Rónán Mullen had this to say:
“Many people wonder about the quality of our politics and the future of democracy itself,” said Senator Mullen. “People question the ability of normal politics to deliver solutions to society’s challenges. We hope this Competition will stimulate interest in the political process and help each student to find their role in our democratic system.”
The Competition will be sponsored by books and stationary publisher, Eason and educational publishing companies CJ Fallon and Folens will provide associate sponsorship.
