That's a rise of almost one-third on the academic year previous.
The number of Ukrainian students in the midlands has increased by nearly a third.
The Department of Education's latest Statistical Bulletin shows there were 1,170 Ukrainian children enrolled in schools in the region in the last academic year - That's up from 693 in 2022/23.
The majority of those are in primary school, where there are 782 Ukrainian children in the region, while there are 388 enrolled in secondary schools.
Nationally, there were more than 18 thousand Ukrainian students in schools around the country in the 2023/24 academic year, a 15% increase on the year prior.
