An Estimated 300,000 People Forced Into Poverty Last Year Due to Rising Housing Costs

Midlands chaplain says it's having a major impact on people's mental health.

The constant threat of falling below the poverty line is causing major mental health problems for many people. 

That's according to TUS Athlone Chaplain Fr Shay Casey who says rent increases in the last 12 months are putting unprecedented strains on family's finances. 

It comes as a new Social Justice Ireland report estimates an extra 300,000 people have been forced into poverty in the past year.
