HSE and Pharmacy Union Agreement Reached On Blister Packs

The State are intending to pay the cost for vulnerable patients from June 1st.

The HSE and the Irish Pharmacy Union have reached an agreement on blister packs, ending months of negotiations around the issue.

New reforms mean vulnerable patients such as those with dementia, an intellectual disability, or people at risk of medication misuse will have their dispensing costs - including blister packs - paid for by the State.

The packs will also be free of charge for medical card patients when deemed appropriate, while others will have to pay a fee set by individual pharmacists.
