Lighting On Public Roads In The Midlands To Be Upgraded To LED

It will bring an estimated €3.8 million saving.

All lighting on public roads in Offaly is set to be upgraded to LED.

The conversion project - first proposed by Fine Gael councillor John Clendennen in 2016 - is now being undertaken on a regional basis by a number of county councils.

The full upgrade in Offaly is estimated to cost about €3.5 million, but is expected to lead to massive savings in both energy consumption and maintenance costs.

Councillor Clendennen says the move to LED would take a number of years to complete but should deliver an estimated €3.8 million over a ten year period:
