Fourth Consecutive Decrease In Midlands Homelessness

The national figure however, has once again risen.

180 people were homeless in the midlands in March.

The latest figures from the Department of Housing show that's a reduction of 18 on the number in February and the fourth consecutive decrease in the region.

131 adults accessed emergency accommodation in the midlands last month.

60 of those were in Westmeath, followed by 43 in Offaly and 28 in Laois.

The new figures also show 49 children were without permanent accommodation in the region in March, which is down three when compared to February.

Nationally however, there's been another record number of people registered as homeless, with 13 thousand 866 last month.

That figure also includes four thousand 147 children.

The figures released by the Department of Housing do not include refugees, asylum seekers, women in refuge centres or rough sleepers.
