Over 1,000 Marriages In The Midlands In 2023

Of those, less than 30 were same-sex weddings.

Over 1,000 people said "I do" in the midlands last year, according to the CSO.

While the majority of ceremonies that took place were Catholic, other religious options included Church of Ireland and Presbyterian.

Secular weddings also proved popular with over 240 civil ceremonies held in the region - other spiritual or non-religious options include Humanist and The Spiritulist Union of Ireland.

There was a major gap between opposite and same sex couples, with over 1,030 opposite sex marriages and less than 30 were same sex.

The most popular day for a wedding in 2023 was a Friday, and the most popular month was August.
